Uncorrected machine reading. This text was read by machine (Apple Vision OCR) from a scan of a newspaper page, and the page was cut into articles by machine, at the headlines found by their type size. Nothing has been corrected: expect misread words, text from a neighbouring article, and titles that are the machine reading of the headline, some of them only fragments. Quote from the scan, not from this page.
How this article was cut and titled: headline found by type size in the OCR geometry (split_tabloid.py); 7-7 of 7; machine-segmented newspaper page; uncorrected Vision OCR.

. Velson Mandela Congratulations! CONGRATULATIONS to Phil Hearse for an excellent anaivsis of events in Grenada in last week's Socialist Action. May I ask for more details of the background, particularly of the New Jewel Movement, to be publishWhile many of us should know all about these developments, nevertheless. I at least am reliant on Socialist Action and such for reliable information that I have time to read.

On an entirely different track, I was very concerned to read Julia Thursday's Guardian (27 Oct) on Tariq Ali's 'ex. pulsion' on page four. What concerned me was the paragraph beginning 'Mr All maintained .. there was no other way to socialisin Inan Inrough the Labour Party' It this is a true ac. count of what he said, I regara ll as a tragic state. ment from a comrade for whom I have an mous respect. If it is mere scurrilous reporting, then I hope it will be hotly denied by Socialist Action et al in print. Socialist Action (28 October) that there is no mention whatsoever of 29 October, this day being TUC Women's Day.

Such an ommission is not consistent with past practice of Socialist :Acnon in underining we need to take women's Issues ana poncies I lie unions.

Likewise, your pages have substantial reports of the efforts of NALGO, NUPE and POEU members (to mention but a lew) in the pre sent disputes ....a good proportion of those Involved and being the most SMALL militant are women. So what happened to TUC Women's Day?

We know that the TUC bureaucrats, as is to be expected didn't take the day seriously, did too little too late. but na.

tionally it has not escaped the notice of the women trade unionists who have organised rallies, leafletling, day schools ... I Is clear that women are going to be taken seriously in the labour movement EITHER SLEEP ANIMALS, tHE WISDOM OF SUCH BEHAVIOUR by fighting all the way from the bottom upcession that the event exists at all. In order to participate in and support the struceles of our sisters we must consistently build such initiatives as TUC Women's Day.

Let's take advantage of it properly in the future!

Nottingham.
